Portfolio Courses
Portfolio Courses are designed to assist students in putting together a body of work suitable for application to Further or Higher Education. The course is part time and offered either during the day or in the evening. The courses are broad-based and flexible in content and structured to provide a platform for feedback, review of work and advice on selecting a specialist area of study. Drawing forms the essential foundation of all projects and students are encouraged to explore materials, mark-making and various 2D/3D methods of creating work.

Each year our Portfolio students show high success rates achieving places in HE/FE courses, both in Glasgow and elsewhere.

How to Apply to Portfolio Courses

Portfolio Day Course (August - March)
Runs over 25 weeks from August to February each year. The course is studio based for 2.5 days per week, and students are encouraged to work outside class time on set briefs and self-motivated study.

Projects vary in length, ranging from one day to four weeks. Critiques, project reviews and individual tutorials regularly take place. A sketchbook and personal project runs for the duration of the course to encourage self-motivated investigation and development of ideas and working methods. Various demonstrations and workshops also take place, such as bookbinding and life drawing.

Seminars, exhibition visits and discussion groups are organised to broaden students' awareness of both historical and contemporary art practices. This supports the studio work, enabling students to contextualise their practice and place their work in a broader context.

The course also offers guidance on application forms, personal statements, references and 'mock' interviews are offered. The Day Course attracts a wide range of people from different age groups, backgrounds and personal experiences, which makes for a positive and energised class dynamic.

Portfolio Evening Course (October - March)

One evening per week from 6-9pm over an 18 week period.  The course follows a similar format to the Day Course with some areas ommitted due to time constraints.  Drawing is the foundation to all projects and students are encouraged to commit as much time  as they can to their portfolio outside of the class. The Evening Course attracts a diverse mix of people from varying backgrounds, such as School/College leavers and those in full-time employment unable to attend during the day.

Portfolio Preparation Course for 5th and 6th Year Secondary School pupils (October - March)

One Saturday morning or afternoon per week 10am-12pm or 2pm - 4pm over a 18 week period. The Portfolio courses for 5th and 6th Year Secondary School pupils are designed to develop the skills necessary for further progression in the world of Art and Design. As with the Portfolio Evening Course, this course follows a similar format to the Day Course with a variety of projects condensed into the shorter study time.

(Please note that Continuing Education Portfolio courses do not guarantee a place on a FE or HE course)
